Implications of the Middle East Crisis on Uganda’s Food Systems

The Middle East crisis following the US-Israel war with Iran poses significant risks to developing economies like Uganda. For researchers and policymakers alike, understanding exactly how these geopolitical disruptions transmit to the domestic economy is an urgent priority. In response, researchers at the Agricultural Policy Research Center (APRC) are actively monitoring the key transmission channels affecting Uganda’s food systems.

This ongoing research has culminated in our first policy brief, which outlines these critical risk exposures and transmission pathways. To foster further discussion, APRC also hosted a public presentation and dialogue on Thursday, 14th May 2026, themed “Dialogue on The Middle East Crisis and Implications for Uganda’s Food Systems.”
